My name is Isabelle Reichert and I’m an exchange student from Germany. I grew up with my two lovely sisters in a small village named Birenbach. After I finished high school I moved to Ulm to study Biochemistry. Ulm is a middle sized city in the south of Germany and is located between Stuttgart and Munich. The close proximity to the Danube river and the beautiful old parts of the city make it an attractive place to live and study. During my study I got an insight into many different parts of the Life Science field, including (amongst others) molecular protein biology, organic chemistry, molecular plant physiology as well as virology.

Due to its very fast emerging nature and close interaction with human immune reactions I found the issues in virology very interesting. Luckily I had the opportunity to perform my Bachelor’s thesis in Ulm University’s institute for Molecular Virology and focussed on the role of Interferon alpha in the release of HIV-1 particles from human CD4+ T cells.

Entering the Master’s programme I heard about the opportunity to spend a semester abroad and about the new cooperation of Ulm University’s and NTU’s Life Science departments. The key points of this specific exchange project quickly convinced me and I’m happy to be accepted as an participant. I’m glad to be a member in Dr. Chiangs lab and thereby have the opportunity to become more familiar with the inflammatory and immunological reactions of the gut responding to viral infection. During the internship I hope I can contribute to the research of this very nice work team.

Besides lab work , I do love to spend my free time on discovering the beautiful nature of Taiwan, especially by hiking.
